行政長官及行政會議同意並提交立法會撥款669億港元興建廣深港高速鐵路香港段（後稱高鐵），自議案提出以來備受社會各界質疑，政府諮詢短短兩個月後便強行推出議案，而該議案更於早前立法會財務委員會工務小組委員會會議上，在大部份功能組別議員支持下通過。

HKU Students Anti-XRL Campaign
The Chief Executive and the Executive Committee approved and proposed the construction of the Hong Kong Section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (XRL) at the cost of 66.9 billion Hong Kong Dollars. The proposal has since been under criticisms from different sectors of the society. The Government put forward the proposal after a short consultation period of just two months. The said proposal has been endorsed by the Public Works Subcommittee under the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council with majority of the votes coming from the functional constituency councilors. This reflected the ignorance towards the concern of the public by the Government and some Legislative Councilors in attempting to push the proposal through in such a short period of time. We demand that the Government to respect the public opinion and comprehensively review the impact the construction will have on Hong Kong's social, economical and developmental prospects. On the other hand, we urge all members of the Legislative Council to fulfill their responsibility to protect public interest by rejecting funding for the construction. Meanwhile, the grant of funding requires approval from the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council. We urge fellow students to join the demonstration on 15th & 16th Janurary outside the Legislative Council Building.
