平反六四屠城全民投票：為公義與真相發聲

　　今年是一九八九年六四屠城二十週年。我們認為，這是一個正式確認香港大學學生會對六四屠城立場的契機。我們將於二零零九年四月十四至十六日舉行全民投票，就著「中華人民共和國中央人民政府必須平反八九民運，並就六四屠城負上責任。」議案作出表態，公投結果將成為香港大學學生會對六四屠城的固定立場。

　　一九八九年春天，學生與工人在北京天安門廣場和平集會，追悼逝世的前中共總書記胡耀邦，繼而要求中共政府進行經濟及政治改革。一九八九年六月四日，維持了七星期的和平抗爭在中共政府的血腥軍事鎮壓下告終。

　　現今豎立在港大黃克競平台的國殤之柱正是一個一個強烈的、痛楚的表象，象徵著在屠城中破滅的生命、夢想與熱忱，也見證著一個可恥的事實：二十年了，中共政府仍未就這一段歷史對公眾作出合理交待。

　　當年的學生用抗爭與犧牲換取我們現享的自由；我們有責任承傳他們的精神，以免因年月的洗刷而流失。我們推動所有港大同學為真相與公義發聲，參與投票確認香港大學學生會對六四屠城的立場，並向社會大眾重申人權、自由、法治、民主——這些仍然被中共政府忽略的普世價值——的重要性。我們懇請同學於四月十四至十六日參與全民公投，在中國民主發展史上留下標記。

General Polling to Rectify the June 4^th Verdict:

Voicing out in the name of Justice and Truth

This year marks the 20^th anniversary of the June 4^th Tiananmen Square Massacre of 1989. We believe that this is the opportunity for the Hong Kong University Students’ Union to affirm and proclaim the stance of the Union on rectifying the June 4^th Verdict at the General Polling.

The General Polling of the motion: “The Central People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China must vindicate the 1989 Democratic Movement, and be held accountable for the June 4^th Massacre”* will be on held on 14-16 April 2009. The outcome of the General Polling will determine the permanent stance of the Union.

In the spring of 1989, students and workers joined in a peaceful protest in Tiananmen Square, Beijing following the death of reformer Hu Yaobang, to press for economic and political reforms. The seven-week occupation of the Square ended with a bloody, military crackdown by the Central People's Government on 4 June 1989.

The Pillar of Shame stands now on our campus as a vivid, painful narrative of the lives, dreams and passions lost during the Massacre. It is testament to the disgraceful fact that twenty years on, the Central People's Government has still yet to pay due regard to this part of history.

After 20 years of denial and injustice, the world has had enough. Thus, in the name of truth and justice, we urge that all Union members to voice out at the General Polling. As the heirs to those who have fought and died for the freedoms which we now enjoy, we all share a duty to step forward on their behalf lest all of their sacrifices be in vain. With your vote, we shall leave our own mark in history towards the democratization of the People's Republic of China.

*The Chinese meaning of motion shall prevail if there is any discrepancy.
